Welcome Teachers!

Thank you for having your students participate in this virtual field trip around the state of Florida. As students learn about the history of our country and the events that have shaped our society today, it is important for them to understand that these events did not happen strictly in Washington D.C. or major cities such as Atlanta, Georgia or Montgomery, Alabama. It is good for students to recognize that their home state was also influential in history, namely the Civil Rights Movement. To further support your instruction about how the state of Florida was involved in the Civil Rights Movement, I have provided lesson plans that build on the learning experience your students have had through this virtual field trip. Feel free to implement these in conjunction with your lessons or as a conclusion to students' participation in this virtual field trip.

Lesson 1 focuses on differentiating between primary and secondary sources.

Lesson 2 has students evaluating the importance of the various events described in this VFT and writing about why they think one event was the most influential.
